Midnight airdrop for 37M wallets, New academic partnership in Brazi & Cardano #2 in global TVL

Hey Cardanians! Welcome aboard the Weekly Cardano Digest #70!

We've filtered through all the noise to distill crucial updates into a breezy, 5-minute read. No need for you to sift through endless info — we've got you covered. Ready to delve into this week's top Cardano news? Let’s dive in.

Here are the topics of the week:

  • Cardano rank #2 in TVL globally right behind Ethereum, we explain to you why. (62% of all ADA is not actively circulating)

  • Midnight Could 10x Cardano's User Base with the Air-Drop

  • Cardano Partners with Brazil’ Top University

  • Weekly Development Report

  • & More!

📈 Cardano rank #2 in TVL: 21.88B ADA Staked — Equal to $13.3B at Current Prices

Currently, over 21.88 billion ADA are staked — representing approximately $13.3 billion at today’s market value. 🔥
Considering ADA’s circulating supply of 35.28 billion, it’s remarkable that 62% of all ADA is not actively circulating — meaning the available supply is much tighter than many realize, which could be a bullish factor for long-term price dynamics.

While Cardano leads the industry with native liquid staking — offering superior decentralization and user control — DeFi Llama does not count this towards TVL due to internal policy.
If native staking were included, Cardano would rank #2 in TVL globally, right behind Ethereum. A powerful testament to the strength of its ecosystem.

We’re building the future of decentralized finance — one block at a time.

🚀 Midnight Could 10x Cardano's User Base

Charles Hoskinson announced that Midnight, Cardano’s new privacy-focused protocol, has the potential to bring 37 million new users into the ecosystem through the Glacier Drop — an airdrop targeting both Cardano users and major blockchain communities. 👀

Who will receive $NIGHT?

-ADA Holders: Especially those who have their ADA staked, with distribution likely based on the amount held and the duration of holding.
-Users from other blockchains: Eligible wallets span Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Dogecoin, Tron, Near, Algorand, and Fantom — totaling over 37 million wallets.

Hoskinson also emphasized that Midnight will be the biggest economic event in Cardano’s history, building bridges with all major networks. Midnight is a native asset issued on Cardano and will have over $20 million allocated for strategic integrations.

Cardano continues to expand its reach, interoperability, and commitment to privacy across the crypto world.

🎓 Cardano Partners with One of Brazil’s Top Universities

In a strategic move, the Cardano Foundation announced a partnership with PUC-Rio, one of Brazil’s most prestigious research and development universities. 🇧🇷
The goal of this collaboration is to advance blockchain research, focusing on key areas like DeFi, DAOs, digital assets, and energy solutions powered by decentralized technology.

Why does it matter?

Brazil is one of the fastest-growing countries in crypto adoption and is home to one of the largest Cardano communities in Latin America, with thousands of active users, developers, and projects underway. This partnership could help establish Cardano as an academic and technological leader across the region.

Cardano continues to build bridges between academia and blockchain innovation.
