πŸ’° Intersect Returns Unspent Budget to the Treasury for the First Time

Intersect executed the SweepTreasury function on its 2025 Treasury Reserve Smart Contract (TRSC) for the first time on mainnet. The result: 115,172 ada of unspent funds from the 2025 Cardano Product Committee budget went straight back to the Cardano treasury, in two transactions of β‚³55,172 and β‚³60,000 that anyone can check on a block explorer.

The amount is small next to the budget as a whole. What matters is that the return path now works in practice, not just on paper. Until this week, the treasury smart contracts had only been proven in one direction: locking funds and releasing them against milestones. Now there is a working answer to the other question every treasury eventually faces β€” what happens to money that was approved but never spent. It does not sit in a wallet. It goes back automatically, through the same contract that held it.

The timing closes a loop. Days earlier, Intersect confirmed that the final 2026 budget contract had been funded, meaning every project in the 2026 cycle now runs through an on-chain contract β€” 25 vendor contracts covering 204.6 million ada in total. With funds going out against milestones and coming back when unused, Cardano's treasury now has both ends of its budget process running on-chain, a year after Voltaire handed that treasury to the community.

🌾 100,000 Indian Farm Plots Are Now Registered on Cardano

100,000 farm lands in India are now registered on the Cardano blockchain. The Cardano Foundation announced the milestone on October 21 for 5am.earth, whose agricultural trust layer brings farm data on-chain so that records become verifiable and reusable across the ecosystem rather than locked inside a single company's database.

The use case is not glamorous, and that is the point. Agriculture runs on records β€” who farms which plot, what was planted, what was produced β€” and when those records are hard to verify, everything built on top of them gets more expensive: credit, insurance, certification, supply-chain traceability. A shared, tamper-evident registry is the layer those services need before they can work at all.

Scale is what makes this one worth noting. Blockchain pilots in agriculture have a long history of staying pilots: a few hundred farms, a press release, and silence. Six figures of registered plots is a different order of magnitude, and it puts 5am.earth among the larger real-world datasets anchored to Cardano. It also fits a pattern the Foundation has been building through the year, from Petrobras putting renewable fuel proofs on Cardano to this week's farm registry: enterprises using the chain as a record of truth rather than a trading venue.

πŸš€ Catalyst's New Pilot Picks 12 Projects From 117 Applications

Project Catalyst has selected 12 projects out of 117 applications for a new 2 million ada pilot fund. The Cardano Foundation set up the pilot to back teams building on the ecosystem's newest tools: stablecoins, Pyth price feeds, programmable tokens and on-chain identity. The pool comes from ada left undistributed in earlier rounds, so no new treasury withdrawal was needed.

The design is a deliberate break from past Catalyst rounds. Grants range from 50,000 to 200,000 ada and pay out in three parts: 40% on onboarding, 40% against adoption targets and 20% against sustained activity, with bonuses of up to 50% for the top three projects. There was no public ADA-holder vote this time; community curators and a specialist panel made the selections. In other words, funding follows usage rather than promises, which answers one of the most common criticisms of earlier Catalyst funds.

The selected teams lean heavily on real-world payments and finance. SyncAI brings QR-code merchant payments to 10 countries using USDCx, PagFinance converts ADA and USDCx into Brazilian reais through PIX, and Cexplorer Pay offers merchant checkout in USDM and USDCx. On the DeFi side, Liqwid Labs is adding signed Pyth prices to lending, and House of Titans is building perpetual trading with stablecoin collateral. Identity projects include Aline Health, which uses CIP-0170 for medical travel credentials.
